Winter Gnomes & Christmas Elves Last Seen at GBTS:
Yes, Virginia, they were socially distancing and wearing masks and last seen repairing several of the garden beds. Volunteer teams of 2 (one old grumpy gnome and some young elf) were seen working as weather allowed to transform our oldest beds into handsome new ones.
The before and after pictures of plot #18 show the dramatic transformation on one of the worst beds. Boards on one end were decayed and broken off and the other three side boards were not much better! With a little elbow grease and new agricultural grade lumber, this bed was transformed into a gardener’s delight that will last many years to come.
GBTS volunteer gnomes and elves repaired 12 plots last winter and will be replacing another dozen between now and February. Our hope is to have the makeover of all our beds completed by 2022. Thanks to all the generous donations from the community this year (and thanks to the gnomes and elves), we will be able to get this phase of the renovation work done before the start of our new growing season in March!
