Garden by the Sea Newsletter #9
Dear Members & Friends, Welcome to a new year at Garden by the Sea, and soon to be a new gardening season! We will officially start the season on April 1st at our Garden Opening Celebration. This is the time to rent a plot, shop for plants and garden supplies, talk to other gardeners, or just come to tour the garden. There are more details about the opening and how to rent a plot below. A big event coming up next month is the Artisan Faire at the VFW in Ocean Shores on February 11th and 12th (see more info below). This is an important one for GBTS since all proceeds will go to help our community garden! I hope you enjoy the articles in this month’s issue, and look forward to seeing you in the garden this spring!🌱 🌻Best wishes for a healthy garden full of sunshine, happiness, and hope for the future. 🌻 Karen Young, President: Garden by the Sea

THE RESTLESS GARDENER: Winter Tasks
Despite the current winter season, there are things you can do throughout the month of February to make your spring tasks easier. Here are a few ideas from OSU Extension. - Tune up lawn mower and other garden equipment.
- Have soil tested.
- Make a plan for what to plant and where to plant it (and when!)
- Repair winter damage to trees and shrubs.
- Till cover crops into garden soil.
- Prune blueberries and fruit trees.
- Prune deciduous trees, shrubs, and vining ornamentals.
- Start cool season veggie seeds in greenhouse or indoors for spring planting (such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower).
