Garden by the Sea Newsletter #5

Dear Members & Friends,

With many flowers and trees in bloom, there is certainly a sense of hope for warm weather to come and stay.   Sunshine and warm temperatures are deeply treasured here on the coast, both for our souls as well as our plants, and it has indeed taken some time for this season to cooperate!

Regardless of that our plots are full, and the gardeners are busy planting many things they love like lettuce, broccoli, carrots, radishes, cabbage, and flowers. 🌺  Soon we will be able to plant with confidence those cherished cherry tomatoes, squash, and cucumbers as we see those temperatures steadily rise.

In this newsletter you will find ideas to keep your garden healthy throughout the growing season.  That includes keeping pests and plant diseases under control, as well as providing rich soil and fertilizing appropriately.  Garden by the Sea 🌱 is an organic garden so our suggestions will always lean in that direction!

Finally, do not forget to water your precious seeds and starts.  Often our rains are more of a “mist” and they do not do a very good job of soaking the soil.  Whatever moisture we typically get in the summer is quickly dried by the wind. 🌦

Have a healthy and safe summer, everyone!

Karen Young,

President
